What do you do when choosing a collection agency? What are you looking for? Many company’s do not take the time to research an agency when making the selection.
- See how many fines a company has from the state attorney general.
- Is the company charging you fees up front? (i.e. clerical fees, processing fees, etc) If so a good bit of advice is to run in the opposite direction.
- What is the commission rate they are charging you? Is it competitive with other agencies?
- Have you researched it with the Better Business Bureau?
- Who is involved in the day to day operations of the agency and are they available to speak with.
- Does the agency operate as an extension of your business and treat your clients/customers with the respect and dignity or are they yelling, screaming and cursing over the phone? How do you want your customers/clients treated?
- Do the follow the FDCPA? (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) From a legal standpoint they are required.
- Do they follow the TCPA? (Telephone Consumers Practices Act) Again they have to.
- Will they allow you to come take a tour of the agency?
- Will they give you a login so you can see what is happening on your accounts?
- How long have they been in business? A year or 2 or 30 plus years.
